Chicago Point Resort - Michigan Cabin Rentals

Chicago Point Resort is located midway between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo on beautiful Gun Lake.  Gun Lake is surrounded by thousands of acres of state forests and has 93 miles of shoreline.  Chicago Point Resort lodging offers a private swimming area, recreation docks (swimming, boating, fishing), campfire and volleyball facilities.

Established in 1960, Chicago Point Resort was formerly the private summer residence of the Chicago-based Slater family. When the Slater family purchased the point, a small cottage was located midway up the hill. The cottage was moved to the top and dubbed the “Crows’ Nest.” A large house, “Journey’s End,” was built where the original cottage had been.  In 1929, stone steps were added to the front of the main house and the hill behind the house was tiered with stone walls.  The Slater’s were known for their hospitality and many politicians, lawyers, judges and reportedly an occasional gangster, were entertained here. According to a former area resident, Al Capone was one of the Slater’s guests.

In more recent years, Norm and Don Strayer, along with their families, run the resort that was established by their parents.
The resort has long been known for its beautiful setting and family atmosphere. Many of the families that vacation at
Chicago Point Resort have been returning for 20 and 30-plus years.
